La Plagne
In the Savoy region "Plagne" means a flattish area in an otherwise steep sloped mountain side.
It is the name that has been given to the area where it was decided, in 1961, to build a ski resort.
In 2003 La Plagne was connected to another ski resort, Les Arcs. This vast area is now called Paradiski and covers 10 000 hectares, from 1250m to 3250m - from the apple orchards in the valley to the glacier at Bellecote. It includes 4 communes (Macôt-La Plagne, Aime, Bellentre, and Champagny-en-Vanoise).
There are 225km , or 134 ski runs in La Plagne (15 black runs, 29 reds, 8 blues and 10 greens) not to mention all the off-piste possibilites (including the North Face of the summit of Bellecote or the Friolin). La plagne is a modern resort with 2 cable cars (including the Vanoise Express, the biggest in the world), 8 télécabines, 36 chair lifts (1x8 person, 11x6 person, 19x4 person and 5x2 person) and 38 drag lifts.
La Plagne has the only bob run in France. It was built for the Olympic games in Albertville, in 1992.
